Pinterest Title and Description deprecated

For several years, Hubbub’s Pinterest Title and Description fields in the Post Editor and Media Library had a note below them that read:

“Pinterest has unofficially switched from custom titles to Open Graph metadata to pull titles. You can add og:title using the Social Media Title field. The Custom Title field will be visible to show historic values.”

What has changed #

Starting in May 2025 in Hubbub Pro 2.26.0, these fields have been marked more clearly as deprecated.

Pinterest’s future support for these fields is unpredictable, so we’ve left them active so that you may still add, edit, or remove data from these fields.

It is our recommendation, that you use the Social Media (or, Open Graph) Title and Description, which is used by the vast majority of social networks, communication tools, chat apps, and now Pinterest as the primary fields for customizing how your posts will be shown when shared across the web.

How Pinterest Titles and Descriptions work #

How Pinterest uses the data it is provided on pins has changed several times over the years. As of May 2025, they are prioritizing the Social Media information (known as Open Graph tags) over any custom data provided to them. So even if you’re setting a custom title for a pin, Pinterest is currently overwriting that information with the site’s Open Graph title.

The description field appears to be used for internal search only and is no longer shown when pinning a new pin.

We will continue to update Hubbub to keep up with the latest changes from all social networks, including Pinterest, so please keep the plugin up-to-date on all of your sites.
